Smile Ballard - COVID-19 Update

To all of our valued patients and friends,

This is an update to the previous email sent regarding our office closure due to COVID-19. The original closure was until April 2, 2020. We will now be closed for all dental treatment except true emergencies until May 18, 2020 in order to comply with the mandate of Governor Inslee and protect us all from the spread of the coronavirus.

As you probably know by now the current strain of coronavirus, or COVID-19 is circulating through our community. All of us here at Smile Ballard are very concerned about the well being of our patients and families. This pandemic is threatening to overwhelm and collapse our health care system if we do not take action to reduce the spread of the virus through social distancing and proper hygiene practices. Dentistry in particular is a very high risk field for the spread of germs and viruses. Cleanings, fillings, crowns, and many of the other treatments we perform in our office require the use of high speed hand-pieces, cavitrons, and air-water sprays that generate aerosolized particles and can travel from person to person. It is for this reason that Smile Ballard has decided to cancel all elective dental treatment for the next 8 weeks. This is in accordance with the amendments to Proclamation 20-05 issued by Governor Inslee on March 19, 2020. We will be available to treat dental emergencies only. If you have an appointment scheduled during the dates from 3/17/30 - 5/17/20, please know that we will need to reschedule your appointment. Many of you have already heard from us via phone or text message, and those of you that have not, please know that we will be reaching out within 2-3 weeks of the appointment date. This is an incredible hardship, but one that we must endure for the safety of all.

During this time, if you need to be seen for an emergency, please call our normal phone number (206)784-6310 and if there is not someone in the office to answer your call, there will be instructions on the message how to contact Dr. Curalli. Please know, we are here to help and your calls are welcome. Do not hesitate to call! Non-Emergent problems can often be helped with recommendations or an antibiotic prescription until the time when our office is safely able to open. Face Time and photo texts can allow for some degree of evaluation. Some emergencies will require referral during this time to specialists that are properly equipped to provide treatment and avoid contracting and spreading coronavirus. If you do come to the office for emergency treatment, we will be taking normal infection control precautions as well as screening people's temperature prior to being seen and asking everyone to swish with an antibacterial mouthwash called peridex once you are seated in one of our treatment rooms.

Any concerns that are not an emergency please leave us a general message via phone or by emailing We will be able to check messages from home while we are away and will do our best to address your concerns in a timely fashion. If you are trying to make a payment, please visit our website and use our online pay portal. Dr. Curalli can be emailed directly for any questions or guidance at

We are sorry for this inconvenience. This is a difficult time and we greatly appreciate how understanding all of you have been and continue to be as we reach out. Please know that this office is committed to not just your oral health, but to your overall health. It is you our patients and friends that make this such a great place, and for that, all of us here are grateful to you. We know that together we will get through this challenging time and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Dominick Curalli, DDS and the entire Smile Ballard team
